I'm sorry to hear about your difficult situation.

Of course we should oppose divorce and work on strengthening marriages. It's a very deep societal problem. The Church can only do so much.

But annulment is not the problem. All it maintains is that a valid marriage never existed due to impediments and lack of understanding. That is a distinction that exists even in civil law.

Sometimes the process is abused but we can't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Thanks for your kind words.Dave Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07771661758539438173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422857.post-70192313285950125172011-04-29T14:39:42.794-04:002011-04-29T14:39:42.794-04:00So...as a Catholic having married a Catholic woman...So...as a Catholic having married a Catholic woman, she filed for divorce and about a yera later filed for annulment. She never dates and never plans on remarriage.
The Tribunal Council went against her with quite a few impediments and found me with none. So can she marry? They also added an extra page of counsleing for her if she was to even be engaged and told her she shouldn't even date...period.
I found the annulment process very painful...it went against my wife, so is she free to marry in the Catholic church with all the impediments the council listed?
Lets cure divorce and we'll get rid of annulments. That's the root of the problem...not annulment. As a Catholic I think the church should do a lot more to save, help and support marriages that are on the brink of divorce...my church did zero! Very dissapointing.
Thanks for your works...I can't say I agree with everything you state, but I do admire your honest efforts to educate and promote peace...God Bless You.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09970039591228603020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422857.post-47582430189104569702009-12-21T16:30:33.394-05:002009-12-21T16:30:33.394-05:00Hi Tonya,
Thanks for your kind words.
I would ma...Hi Tonya,

Thanks for your kind words.

I would make the same interpretation, yes, on the principle that "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath" (Mk 2:27).

The same general notion also occurs in Matthew 23:23:

"Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others."

Jesus upholds the Law (Matt 5:17-20; 23:1-3); yet it is given a radically fresh reinterpretation (Matt 9:10-17). The Council of Jerusalem (Acts 15) did the same thing, in ruling that circumcision was no longer necessary. Baptism had replaced it as the entrance rite into Christianity (Paul had elsewhere drawn an analogy between circumcision and baptism).Dave Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07771661758539438173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422857.post-47020138170316657942009-12-21T14:00:52.750-05:002009-12-21T14:00:52.750-05:00"When Jesus contended with the Pharisees over..."When Jesus contended with the Pharisees over, e.g., the levitical legality of rescuing a sheep on the Sabbath, He was not saying such an act was wrong, which He was now relaxing for pastoral purposes, in order to accommodate human weakness. Quite the contrary; He was saying that such acts never were wrong, but that they were misunderstood as being forbidden by the Law when in fact they were not contrary to the Law - properly understood spiritually. He said that the Sabbath was made for man, not vice versa. "

Mr. Armstrong:

I came across this post of yours today while reading the subject thread.

This is off the subject, but I really respect your views and would like to know if you would apply this same interpretation to Jesus' actions in Mark 2:23-28?

Thank you,

~Tonyatonyahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11774232880291809514noreply@blogger.com
