Of course, DagoodS is thumbing his nose at all this, as of no relevance at all, on the exact grounds I predicted: it is hearsay and therefore worthless (and Kyle is known to lie and otherwise misrepresent his opponents). He wrote a whole paper, and I am currently replying to it.

We Christians almost inevitably (or at least with disturbing frequency) have to be revealed in the end as liars or ignoramuses, so sez DagoodS, in his infinite apostate wisdom.

I also added a few corroborating details to the final section, with more Budge citations.Dave Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07771661758539438173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422857.post-16301670379149089692011-01-21T12:10:44.843-05:002011-01-21T12:10:44.843-05:00Great work in laying out the case for identifying ...Great work in laying out the case for identifying Kyle's anonymous Hittite skeptic archaeologist as Budge. It's a solid case and I think you're right -- and since by 1904 the notion that the biblical Hittites never existed really was no longer tenable, it's no wonder Budge voiced his skepticism rather than putting it into print.

Even so, I hope you'll keep digging to find published expressions of skepticism or denial of the Hittites' existence. It'll take some time, but this "archaeological excavation" of the course of 19th. century anti-biblical and pro-biblical debate will be well worth the effort. In the end, the truth will be clearer to all, and the atheist opponents of truth and reason will have one less means of attack.Confiteborhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17951083063448447552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422857.post-61288621914620102492011-01-20T17:29:24.798-05:002011-01-20T17:29:24.798-05:00I found another quote from 1887 where the person d...I found another quote from 1887 where the person denies that there was a Hittite Empire and that the Hittites were of a distinct race or stock (being merely a sub-group of Syrians).

I added that to the end of the paper at 5:30 PM EST Thursday.Dave Armstronghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07771661758539438173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422857.post-41453648538831876322011-01-20T16:41:11.612-05:002011-01-20T16:41:11.612-05:00I continue to add further exchanges: now also with...I continue to add further exchanges: now also with Vinny: a cordial atheist on DagoodS' blog. The only thing left is to identify and quote those skeptics in their own words. That will take a bit more digging, but it'll happen.

Of course, wholly apart from the specific claims of DagoodS, there is the general account of the way archaeological discoveries pertaining to the Hittites made fools of those skeptics who doubted or denied what the Bible says about them. DagoodS's point, and the point of other atheists who attempt to advance this argument, is to try and demolish that general account. But we've seen that their attempt has failed: it's true that skeptics once doubted or denied the biblical testimony of the Hittites, and then archaeological discoveries shed light on that testimony and showed there was never any valid reason to call in question what the Bible records about the Hittites. It's just another example of the irrationalism of Bible skeptics and "liberal" critics. The essence of this account remains valid even if no skeptic ever claimed that the Hittites were mythical or that they never existed.

As for Larry the Barefoot Bum, wow, what a repugnant, bigoted soul. And he thinks it is taking Christianity seriously that turns somebody into a "grotesque, obsessed, scrofulous little gnome that no ordinary person with a job, a mortgage, and a bowling team with a shot at the playoffs really wants to have as a friend"? He comes across as an intensely unhappy, unpleasant person.Confiteborhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17951083063448447552noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6422857.post-22571514931043648812011-01-20T10:18:16.414-05:002011-01-20T10:18:16.414-05:00Martin,
