It's only been up about an hour, as of writing (9:30 PM EST on Wednesday, 17 June), and there are still some details to be worked out, because my friend finished his work for the day. Notably, I'll have a neat rotating book widget on the sidebar that will link to my book page, for all sales and further inquiry about my books.
I wanna hear lots of positive comments, because I am sick to death of complaints about my old blog design (that was done for free about four years ago). Now, I think I am right up to speed, with a classy, very artsy, "old-fashioned" look. And I still have the content that I've always emphasized: the best of both worlds. So let's hear it for the new design, and George and Ashley Weis, over at Tekeme Studios (BIG APPLAUSE!). I hope many of you will visit their site and get on-board with the cutting-edge of Blogger design today. George has written a kind post on his separate blog about this new design, too.
It was a pleasure working directly with George, and many of my suggestions were incorporated (for example, I suggested the very top of the design, and the burnt-orange fancy lines underneath the posts (they were light blue, originally). The three high-contrast b&w photos at the top were my ideas, etc.
One item I should mention is that Haloscan comments are no more. Now I'll have comments through Blogger, like most Blogspot blogs do. That's an improvement. Old Haloscan comboxes can still be accessed, though, by following links on my Topical Index Pages, that look like this: "(+ Discussion)". So, for example, to get to the combox for the "Calvin's Rejection of St. Ignatius" post, you have to go to the "Calvin and Calvinism" topical index page, find the link to this paper, and follow the discussion link to Haloscan. None of that is lost as long as I made a link to it.

Real nice
A+ Dave. Thanks for putting Thérèse of Lisieux on top.
So much better! Things I like:
The blue background with Hebrew text, the three B&W pics on top, the shield with the red cross, and the figure of Saint Michael near top lefter corner.
Great!!
The dark brown and blue combination was my idea, and also the faint Hebrew letters. That's on one of my book covers. The shield and st. Michael were George's ideas, to put forth the idea of "defense."
This is terrific!
Very nice! I liked your collection of articles on the old site but really like the look of this one!
Dave,
I have been using your blog and your books as a resource for a while now. I am very, very happy that you now have a blog design that reflects the quality of your content.
It is excellent.
Rave reviews thus far. Thanks to all for commenting, and as always, for stopping by and reading my stuff! I love all o' ya!
hi! nice touch with the new homepage (which looks terrific in my monitor as your webpage is my default). --- from the Philippines
I like it! :)
Huge improvement, well done.

Dave, it is great! Very user-friendly and practical while looking very pleasing to the eye.
I especially like the 'St. Michael' touch.

Much better. The old blog looked like basic HTML pages from 1995. Welcome to the 21st century. :)
Fantastic.
Chad (who designed many of my book covers) recommended Tekeme to me, so kudos to him. He was right!
Much better, Dave! I was just thinking this morning how I would like your blog more if the format was different. Now it is easier on the eye and more pleasant to browse. Well done, sir!
I'm just noticing the Hebrew background, which thematically complements the Greek, comes up first...nice. I need to send my 6th graders over here for a look; as the two Bible languages, they both come up periodically in class.
Hi Dave,
I love your new format and think that it now is of the same quality as your articles and comments. So many of the other blogs are long on "style" and short on meaningful content and coherent thinking.
God Bless You James, Tim
Looks good!
Love your new look Dave. Your Protestant friend Rich here.
It's a vast improvement over the old one. I love your use of history and symbolism. Very nice touch. So, keep up the great work and be sure you'll be on my follow list.
Rich (your ferret with rose colored glasses)
Good to hear from ya Rich. The blog design is getting 100% rave reviews so far.
I'm curious now to see if the hits per day goes up because of this (and/or book sales). They've been constantly between 500-600 for almost the entire five years.
All the graphics people tell me traffic will increase, but I'll believe it when I see it. I predict a mild upturn (maybe 10-20%). I hope I'm dead wrong and that tons more folks come by!
Dave,
As you know, it was an absolute pleasure to do this with you. The look is sharp, and it has it's own vibe. Which you contributed much to. Thanks for giving me the room to make it sing, and for being such a kind person to work with through the process. We are almost done with this round! Now, can I interest you in matching business cards? :D Kidding... well... sort of :) Perhaps some time!
Much love to you in Christ our Lord,
-g-
The pleasure was mine, George; all the talent was yours! LOL
I might get a batch of business cards for my book table at the CHNI conference in October. Don't really use 'em much otherwise. We'll see.
I think the new format is great. A big improvement on the looks. I can't see you improving much on the write-ups though. Keep them coming I read them everyday and look forward to it. Once I get use to navigating through the new blog it will be good.
In my opinion, this is much better design. Excellent!
Looks good Dave. One nit pick. The Recent Comments section does not seem to work for me. Not sure if it because I have Explorer rather than Firefox.
It seems to be temperamental. Sometimes it isn't there and I'll refresh the screen and it'll come up. There may be another way to do it by getting another widget.
I like it. HUGE improvement. Sleek.
I like the three figures at the top, all representing different aspects of your work. (CS Lewis = Christianity across all lines; St Therese = simple yet powerful lessons; Newman = intellectual convert).
Also, I like the blogger comment format much better.
I agree with the others. This is a great design!
Very beautiful and clean looking. Loads on my phone better than the old webpage.
I can see the comments on my phone too now. I think it's because you've moved from Haloscan to blogger for comments.
I saw a post on another blogger site about a program to download all your pages into an archive on your computer. http://bloggerbackup.codeplex.com/
Nick, you understand exactly why I chose those three photos. I want to convey the whole range of Catholicism and indeed Christianity, not just dryasdust apologetics or theology the stereotype of what apologists or myself personally, are supposedly solely about).
I wanted to have a woman (and a doctor of the Church and mystic). I have a convert, and I have a Protestant apologist who has been my favorite writer for years.
There is also a very personal connection with Lewis, St. Therese: one of my favorite saints, and Cardinal Newman, who was the biggest intellectual influence on my conversion (development of doctrine being my favorite part of theology).
I was also gonna have Kierkegaard, to represent another Protestant and good philosophy, but either three or five photos were recommended. The fifth would have been Chesterton, but his mug is pretty common on Catholic sites, so I opted out of that.
It's also weird that the Newman and Lewis photos were actually the ones on my website WAY back: 12 years ago.The Newman was an alternate, since we were looking for a high rez photo. George Weis, the graphic artist selected an alternate Lewis photo for the same reason, and it turned out to be the same one I had back when. Weird.
Here, take a look at my website in March 2000, with the two photos, but both turned the opposite way from what they are now:

Randy: "One nit pick. The Recent Comments section does not seem to work for me. Not sure if it because I have Explorer rather than Firefox."
Yep, I'm having the same problem; the recent comments appear only intermittently. And refreshing doesn't always work.
It might be some kind of minor code problem (Dave probably needs to consult with the page designers about this), so switching from IE to Firefox, which is the browser I use, probably won't help (I also have Explorer, Safari and Chrome btw).
Still, you might want to consider going with Firefox anyway. Do it for better safety and reliability.
If you're not too familiar with Firefox, you can read about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox
You can also find a lot of info at You Tube, for example, this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yln7Ju4qYFk&feature=channel
And of course, check out the Mozilla / Firefox site. It has plenty of info, and you can download Firefox for free!
I've been using Firefox for years without a hitch! And of course, you can still keep Explorer, just for old times sake - or if you just like being much more exposed to viruses etc. ;)
So don't be shy, give Firefox a try!
The designers didn't put that in; I did. I couldn't even find it within my own Blogger stuff. I found this one from a link on another site, and just pasted in the code. It's pretty unreliable, so I'll be looking around a bit more, because it is a very convenient feature.
Thanks Dave,
Ben, I do use Firefox at home. I have for years. At work I am not allowed to. Only company approved software. They have guys to deal with virus issues.
Dave: "It's pretty unreliable..."
Yeah, sorta like Calvin's treatment of the Papacy! LOL!
Randy and Dave: Glad to hear you're both using the fox (at least when you can)!
And if you don't mind my asking, what OS are y'all using (I'm currently running Vista Ultimate, but starting to look more closely at getting into Linux)?
Speaking of which, anyone familiar with these?

Dave,
It looks great. You should see plenty of "moths" interested in the Light with this new design.
I also like the fact that I don't have to type some Word Verification Code in order to post a comment.
Having said that: I still like the Haloscan comment box better. Oh, well.
Mega-improvement. Glad to see Haloscan gone too.
This is freakin' awesome, man! Nice stuff! Looks even nicer than my own, now! ;)
The new look is wonderful!
Blessings,
Teri S
p.s. I'm the woman who asked for help at the Coming Home Network questions site..."Help my brother in law is John Calvin!"
You answered my questions and gave me this address to your refutation of Calvin's institues...
Thank YOU!
You needed this! Very, very nice. Very professional! George did a great job!
It is tremendous! Very well done. Another rave.
Dave,
Sorry I've been absent so long. I miss hanging out and discussing stuff with everyone here.
I've only seen the main page, but I like it. I'm much more function over form, so I'm not really the guy to ask about how something "looks". I do like the "links" at the very top.
I also remember when I first started reading & commenting on your old site, it was a little hard for me to navigate. At first glance this one seems a much easier and more intuitive.
George & Ashley did a great job. I like the design very much.

Much Better Dave, probebly alot easier to navagate as well (although I haven't looked around much yet).
Thanks all! I'm delighted that it is 100% rave reviews so far.
Much better.
Very nice! I knew that George would do an excellent job as he did to mine. -Theo
Thanks for great tips!
