Hello Dave, I m your big fun from Slovakia! I m really fond of your approach in defending our faith. Your "modus opearandi" is very appealing. I would like to ask you, since I m interested in cults and I prefer historical arguments to biblical (I m sure you are well familiar with impossibility to penetrate "cherry picked" verses of cults as they will just tell you what they/verses/mean and you are supossed to take it for granted) When it comes to deeper debate/doesn t happen very often as most of them will just rather escape/ I m always challenged to prove reliability of historical sources and it often stops my offensive. I have some methods how to deal with it but I would like to know your opinion how to effectivly show that my resources are superior to his. Thank you very much and God bless you and your family.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words. All you can do is appeal to the academic credentials of whatever historian you use. If that is insufficient, then you're not likely to get anywhere debating someone, because they are beyond rational discussion. JWs are so used to misquoting historians that they are usually beyond discussion. You'd have to catch one who is questioning already or not fully persuaded of the JW position.
